Face to Face with High School Students
August 22nd, 2013 by Zac
It’s a bit daunting – the faces of all those students in the classrooms, who want some hope and help about how reach their dream of a healthy family. They are normal High School students, lost in a sea of desires for love, sex, acceptance and the now. Future is so far away. By the time they are married and start their family, much of their potential for a healthy family is damaged or broken, with a slim chance of anything being repaired enough to function properly. Some are drawn to God’s truth about life, but it’s like a blurry hologram of truth. They seem to sense the truth in what we teach them, but the leap of faith is so intimidating.
After a long day of class lectures this past spring, I met one girl at an afternoon activity we sponsored, for follow-up. She told me that she so enjoyed my lecture, but didn’t stay to talk afterwards. When I asked her why she didn’t stay, she said she didn’t know. I told her that I could give her a repeat on what we discussed after
the lecture, if she liked. She agreed, and we sat in the grass, with a couple of other youth group leaders. After sharing the story of what Christ has done for us, she decided to pray to receive Christ. It was a unique moment.
Now, 6 months later, the real difficulties set in. Can she find other Christian friends? Can she get plugged into a local church family? Will the truth that was sown, be able to take root and grow? These are all uncertainties. Pray with me, that God, the great farmer, will care for these new seedlings of faith. And that this girl’s future family and future will be another testimony, that God can save lives.
